Who we are

CluedUp (staycluedup.com) is an independent editorial project that explains how South African public services actually work. We write plain-language, step-by-step guides for the systems that millions of people have to navigate every year: the SASSA social grants and the SRD grant, NSFAS student funding, SARS eFiling, the Department of Home Affairs (Smart ID cards, passports and birth certificates), and the Department of Basic Education (matric results and rewrites). We also publish scam-safety guides so readers can spot fake portals and fraudulent messages before they lose money or personal data.

We are independent, not the government

CluedUp is not a government department, agency, or contractor. We are not SASSA, NSFAS, SARS, the Department of Home Affairs, or the Department of Basic Education, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of them. We cannot access your account, check your application status, approve a grant, or process any official transaction. When you need to do something official, you do it on the government’s own portal. Our job is to help you understand the process before and after you get there.

Why CluedUp exists

Official portals are often confusing, slow, or unclear about what to do next. At the same time, search results for terms like “SRD status check” or “NSFAS application” are crowded with copycat sites and outright scams that harvest ID numbers and banking details. We built CluedUp to sit between those two problems: an honest, easy-to-read guide that always points you back to the correct official source and never asks you for sensitive information.

Our mission

Our mission is simple: help ordinary South Africans get things done with public services without being confused, delayed, or defrauded. We measure success by whether a reader finishes a guide knowing exactly what to do next and where to do it safely.

  • We will always direct you to the official government portal for the actual transaction.
  • We do not provide legal or financial advice; our guides are general information.

How we are funded

CluedUp is funded by advertising. Advertising keeps our guides free to read, but it never influences what we write or which official sources we recommend. Advertisers do not get to shape, review, or approve our editorial content, and we do not accept payment to present a private service as if it were an official one. Where content is sponsored, we label it clearly.

Our accuracy commitment

Every guide is built from official government sources, dated, and reviewed by a human editor before publication. You can read the full process on our How We Verify Our Guides page. Because amounts, fees and deadlines change, we describe figures such as grant amounts as accurate “as of” a given time and always tell you to confirm the current figure on the official portal.

Corrections

We would rather fix a mistake than defend one. If you spot something that is out of date or wrong, email [email protected] with the page and the issue. We review every report, correct verified errors promptly, and update the page’s revision date.
